At CIS we believe that effective schools are founded on a deep respect for students and that children thrive when they are challenged. We encourage children to take risk and to tackle difficult projects. Teachers use complex concepts and interesting problems to teach the basic skills and the content of each academic area. In our classrooms the teacher acts as a coach for students and models thinking, planning, risk-taking and reflection. CIS is committed to providing an innovative learning environment centered on partnerships with our faculty, students and parents. CIS teachers develop curricula and a variety of teaching strategies that allow children to demonstrate positive understanding. In each subject area teachers create programs that require children to master multiple methods for solving a problem. Using this approach, our teachers are able to appreciate the unique talent, abilities and the learning style for each student. Our goal is not the creation of a single perfect curriculum or a spectacular lesson, but rather, to observe individual children carefully and to create instructional strategies based on observations.
Civic responsibility is central to the ethos of CIS. We believe that developing respect for different views and empathy for the needs of others is essential to the moral development of a child. We teach children to listen carefully to others, to help one another, to participate in group-discussion and to assume leadership positions. We partner with families to develop morally righteous and respectful students who can support themselves and their communities.
THE CIS MISSION
Chitkara International School is centered on the lives of children and is dedicated to the development of their intellect and personality. We actively encourage the process of joyful discovery that is significant to a meaningful and responsible learning and this is reflected in every aspect of school life.
Teaching is individualized and responsive to the talents of each student, and the curriculum is rigorous and integrates the concepts and skills embedded within the major disciplines. Our students are chosen for their promise of intellect and character and are selected from a cross-section of the community. Our faculty members, are leaders in their fields, are supported in advancing their studies and are encouraged to share their knowledge widely.
In pursuit of these ideals, and in recognition of obligations beyond the school itself, we strive to be innovative leader in education, serving as a model for others.
