Inspiring "We believe that character forms the foundation for both intellectual and personal growth. CIS students are active and responsible participants in every aspect of the school community. As our students learn, we expect them to demonstrate self-discipline, judgment, and personal knowledge." |
Chitkara International School (CIS) presents an International Learning programme presently available and designed for children in Grades I, II , III, IV and V. The curriculum is truly international in nature but also integrates the country’s cultural values and all its features. The primary stage of education is immensely important; as it is here that the foundations of literacy, numeracy and other structures are laid down for the future. We aim to nurture skilled, confident children who enjoy studying, care about others and can increasingly take responsibility for their own actions. We do have high expectations both academically and socially for our children. Yet at this time, childhood should be fun and as stress free as it can possibly be.
The core components of CIS Curriculum are:
Literacy in English – Children will vary greatly in their initial literacy levels, particularly in Grade I. They will also come with a variety of personalities and learning preferences. Some will be strong visual learns while others will be better auditory learners. Some will need a lot of structure and guidance while others will be self-directed, independent learners. Keeping all these things in mind, the various skills of language learning – Listening, Speaking, Reading (both guided and self-selected), Writing – as well as Phonetics, are equally stressed upon.
Mathematics – Children will be placed in stimulating learning environment to engage them and encourage a lifelong interest in mathematics. This environment will surround students with mathematics, nurture and support their mathematical thinking and consist of various opportunities that will require problem solving. In such environment, students experience mathematics daily and across the curriculum. They explore and develop their own understanding of concepts, practice skills developed in lessons, solve problems and apply what they learn in new situations.
Science & Technology – Children will explore various areas of science, including social science. They will gain knowledge on various topics ranging from the Early Existence of Man to the current discoveries of Outer Space. They will also learn about computers, their peripheral and importance. All of these areas will be reinforced through hands on activities, experiments and research projects.
Hindi – The main Indian language of Hindi will be given equal importance and emphasis in the curriculum. Children will be reading and writing in Hindi, as well as be fluent in the language.
Other Languages - Apart from English and Hindi emphasis is also given to other languages like Punjabi and French in which the students learn steadily how to read, write and speak.
